Get Messy Art Journal 001: Paper Weaving

Get Messy Art Journal 001

I’m very excited to join the Get Messy Art Journal Challenge and this is my very first challenge. This was my first time trying paper weaving. I cut strips of paper from an old dictionary.

I will be posting art journal pages every Thursday and the last Thursday of the month will be a challenge.

The September 2014 challenge is from Sabine of Moments to Live For:

Journaling Challenge: Live your adventurous dreams on paper. What would you love to do, or at least try, if you had the courage to live more adventurously? I would, for example, like to live on a houseboat or a train wagon. My Response: If I had the courage to live more adventurously, I would write a book.

Art Challenge: Try a method or material you’ve never worked with before. Be adventurous! My Response: I’ve never tried paper weaving. I cut strips of paper from an old dictionary and weaved them together (left) included one page in full (right). I used Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue, but I didn’t like that the excess glue wasn’t easy to rub off (I used to use rubber cement and loved the feature that I could easily rub off excess glue.

What’s your favourite glue to use with paper crafting?

Art Journaling

I am participating in the 31 Days, which is a blogging challenge in October organized by The Nester. I have chosen to (attempt) to write Monday-Friday during October on the topic of art journaling.

I love how these pagesfeel old-fashioned, but are also intricate and modern. I think you did a really fine job here! I might try paper weaving at some point, I like the effect you got by using strips that had printed words on them. Very pretty!

Thanks Violetta! I think I’d recommend trying a glue stick instead of the liquid glue like I used. I’d like to see what you make!

Paper weaving! Wow that takes me back 🙂 I had forgotten that technique even existed but it turned out so great on your pages! I think the prompt/technique combo you chose is so perfect. How exciting to want to write a book too ^^ Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month)? It’s next month actually, and who knows maybe you’ll end up with your book sooner than later 😉
